A renowned cult figure from the late-90s / early 00s Electronic Music / “IDM” scene and beyond, Danish artist & producer Thomas Knak (one third of experimental Danish trio, System) gently released his debut solo album Objects For An Ideal Home (under his signature moniker, Opiate) into the world in 1999 (a joint-label release between Danish-based April Records, and Knak’s own Hobby Industries imprint), quickly gaining an enthusiastic audience and notable acclaim.

Following several years in various projects (including experimental trip-hop project, James Bong), Knak’s debut tenderly stitched together delicate, memorable melodies with minimal but intricate production and a unique use of found-sounds and home recordings, paying subtle homage to the warmth of domesticity and the routines within our daily lives.

As the release of Objects For An Ideal Home swiftly gained attention, Björk lead the pack by inviting Knak to join her in the production of her universally acclaimed fourth international solo album, Vespertine (notably on the tracks ‘Cocoon’ and ‘Undo’) with subsequent remixes for the likes of Coldcut and Bomb The Bass swiftly following.

As part of UK Electronica label Bit-Phalanx Music’s 10 year anniversary celebrates, the label invited Thomas to join their Cassette Store Day release project which pays homage to the classic albums that influenced them, conveniently coinciding with the 20th anniversary of Objects For An Ideal Home. We are proud to re-issue the album as a limited, remastered deluxe cassette + digital bonus remixes from Bit-Phalanx stalwarts Jilk and Derek Piotr, both of whom count Knak and the album as a huge influence on their own works.
